Sally Wiener Grotta

Sally Wiener Grotta, is an award-winning journalist, author, essayist and photographer. A popular, stimulating speaker, she has appeared throughout North America at venues large and small, including corporate meetings and non-profit organizations,schools and universities, conferences and trade shows, book clubs and libraries, as well as on radio and TV.

Sally is the author of numerous books including the novels The Winter Boy (a 2015 Locus Award nominee) and Jo Joe (a Jewish Book Council Network Book). Her hundreds of features, columns, essays and reviews have appeared in scores of glossy magazines, newspapers and journals. She has traveled on assignments to all the continents (including three trips to Antarctica), and many exotic islands (such as Papua New Guinea and Madagascar), covering a wide diversity of cultures and traditions. As a fine art photographer, Sally is best known for her American Hands project, an ongoing series of narrative portraits of traditional tradespeople.

Sally’s far-ranging experiences flavor her stories and presentations with a sense of wonder and otherliness, plus a healthy dose of common sense.  She has a reputation for stimulating open, honest discussions on subjects such as creativity, the business of writing, storytelling, and the nature of bias and prejudice.
